Have you considered a Holiday in Majorca?

By Jennifer Davis

When most people think of Spain, they think of Ibiza, with its reputation for being a party island and a cheap holiday destination for families. Majorca tends to get overlooked, but is an amazingly pretty island that could rival its sisters, Menorca and Ibiza quite easily. One hour ahead of GMT, the flights take around 2 to three hours from the UK, and the climate is mostly good, ranging between 14 and 31 degrees throughout the year. One important thing to note is that transport links on the island arent great and taxi fares arent cheap so before booking your Majorca hotel, make sure you know how youre going to transfer from the airport, and what this will cost. Otherwise you could find that your holiday budget considerably less than youd thought it would be (remember you have to pay for your transfers back to the airport).

Majorca has plenty of other things going for it as a holiday location, and its not too shabby in the partying category either! Temperatures in Majorca dont get quite as high as some of the other more popular islands, but with a top temperature of around 31 degrees centigrade, its hot enough to develop the suntan of your dreams. A word of caution however, when planning your holiday, keep airport transfers in mind when choosing which of the many Majorca hotels youre going to stay at as these can be expensive. Unless you are able to share the cost, finding hotels in Majorca where the airport transfers are frequent and cost less can help your budget go further!

If youre taking young children on holiday then Majorca is a perfect destination. There are resorts all over the island which allow you to enjoy the experience of holidaying abroad without the need to find public transport to transfer you, the kids, and all the stuff a family with young children needs for a day on the beach to the nearest sands. Youll be able to find a Majorca hotel that will put you in a great location so you can easily return to your hotel room, or Majorca apartment throughout the day. Some of these hotels have entertainment and clubs especially for kids so youll get an occasional break from the sand castle building.

For accommodation theres a good variety of hotels in Majorca. Whether youve got a large budget for your Majorca hotels, or a small one the choice of hotels in Majorca is wide. If youve got a special kind of Majorca hotel in mind however you should try and book up as far in advance as possible. For example, hotels in Majorca that are almost on the beach, and especially those that have an ocean view, will get booked up quickly. The other option to a hotel room is booking a Majorca apartment. Whether you want a small apartment for just yourself and your partner, or a larger one to share, there are many apartments in Majorca to choose from. As with the hotels in Majorca however, the best situated apartments, and those with the best prices, will book up fast so dont leave it until the last minute.

You may get a good deal, but chances are if you are travelling in the high season, you will end up paying twice as much for your hotel room as you would have booking earlier.

If youre looking for a holiday on Majorca that doesnt have such a tourist-trap feel to it, Camp de Mar is relatively unspoiled and offers a great opportunity to spend time on Majorca without getting caught up in the noise found elsewhere. Although relaxation is very much the order of the day in this part of the island, golfers will find themselves near to a nicely manicured course, and some hotels do provide in-house entertainment for those who want it. On the other side of the scale, El Arenal is the place to be if nightclubbing is the main purpose of your holiday.

Majorcas a great holiday destination. With such a diversity of activities available, its a great choice for everyone from grandma to the baby " and even those hard-to-please teens!
